Article Snippet: Bacterial suspensions were treated with 200 μg/mL proteinase K (GoldBio, Olivette, MO) or sham treated with an equal volume of deionized water in the presence or absence of 2% Triton X-100 (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO) at 37°C for 15 min. Digestion was terminated by addition of 1 mM phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (Amresco LLC, Salon, OH), Laemmli buffer was added to a concentration of 1×, and samples were boiled for 10 min. 10-μL samples of these preparations were separated by SDS-PAGE, and immunoblotting was performed as described above.
