Calibration of the magnetic levitation system by using polymeric beads with known densities. (A) Images of the magnetically levitated beads with different densities (1 g/mL, 1.02 g/mL and 1.09 g/mL) in culture medium containing 25 mM, 50 mM or 100 mM Gd 3+ solution. The blue line presents the uppermost level of the levitation heights of the beads with 1 g/mL density, the red line with 1.02 g/mL, and the yellow line with 1.09 g/mL. Blue and red arrows show the difference of levitation heights of the beads between density of 1.09 g/mL and, 1 and 1.02 g/mL. Scale bar: 200 μm. (B) Correlation between the levitation height and the density of beads. For each Gd 3+ concentrations (25, 50 and 100 mM), a linear equation was obtained with determined levitation heights of beads (R =0.998, R2=0.999 and R2=0.998, respectively). Data is represented as mean ± SD.
